Creating and Managing Categories in Gallery (Shopify)

Learn how to create, organize, and manage categories and subcategories for your customer-facing image gallery using the Build a Gang Sheet app in Shopify.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Navigate to the Gallery Settings

  1. Go to your Shopify admin → Apps.
  2. Select Build a Gang Sheet.
  3. Click the Images tab in the left-hand menu.

2. Add a New Category

  1. Click Add Category.
  2. Enter a category name in the text field.
  3. Optionally enable Color Overlay.
  4. You can also upload a cover image and crop it as needed. This is used for galleries where you have set a non-dropdown style category.
  5. Click Submit to create the category.

3. Manage Category Images

  1. Click the category name from the sidebar.
  2. Select Add Images to upload new designs.
  3. Use Tags to help organize your uploads.
  4. You can upload up to 100 images at once with unlimited storage. It will watermark your images automatically. Please do not upload watermarked images as we are unable to remove your uploaded watermark.

4. Organize and Edit Gallery Items

  1. Click on a category to view all images associated with it.
  2. Select multiple images to apply bulk actions.
  3. Sort images manually to control display order.
  4. Use the Search Images field to quickly find assets.

5. Work with Subcategories

  1. Click the three-dot menu on a category to Add Subcategory, Edit, or Add Images.
  2. To create subcategories, repeat the same steps used for parent categories. You can create sub-categories of sub-categories if you would like as well.
  3. Once created, your clients will see the final categorized gallery on the storefront.

Tips for Effective Category Management

  • Use clear, descriptive category names like "Animals", "Sports", or "Seasonal Designs."
  • Enable color overlays if you want to allow customers to change the color of a gallery image.
  • Tag images consistently for easier filtering and bulk edits.
  • Organize images into intuitive subcategories to improve customer experience.
